Healing Springs Animal Hospital is an active participant in animal-assisted activities, also known as therapy dog work. These dog / handler teams lift spirits and brighten days by visiting nursing homes, participating in school reading programs, making hospice visits, cheering on Special Olympics athletes, and more.
Pet Partners teams are specially evaluated, registered, and insured for animal-assisted activities. Healing Springs is a credentialed evaluator for Pet Partners teams, and we routinely conduct evaluations to register new teams. The evaluations are rigorous and many applicants find that they have to try more than once before being declared ready for animal assisted activities. It is often the most motivated handlers from our dog training classes that go on to become Pet Partners volunteers.
